Unique,
Remarkable,
Queer

Queer Life, aka Queer NW, was founded in 2019 with a vision to create an organization that brings together the community through events, networking, and creating a network of what is happening and where to get services. This vision is for everyone to have a seat at the table and help guide the growth so that no one’s voice is ever not heard. You will see this in our mission statement and how the board development and positions were created.

Queer NW is a 501(c)3 and is proud to be a Gold Transparency Awardee by Candid/Guide Star for trustworthiness in operations and financials.

Mission & Vision Statements

Queer NW’s mission is to enhance the betterment of the LGBTQ+ community of the Pacific Northwest by showcasing the unique and talented individuals, groups, and organizations with emphasis on art, culture, health, and rights that make this community’s diversity incredibly remarkable.

Its vision is to create a new purpose for the community, one that is not out of necessity but out of support and respect. Where equity and access are thought of first and programs are built from that perspective to be inclusive and make the intended impact for those that need it. Where every identity, background, and heritage are invited to help shape and form their future together.

Queer Northwest is a supporting nonprofit for the LGBTQIA+ community to showcase the unique and talented groups and individuals that make up this community. With an emphasis on art, culture and diversity, QueerNW will be the foundation to creating awareness and spaces for this community to come together and celebrate what makes us queer.

The base for QueerNW is the people that make this organization what it is. The members help create the programs that are best needed to support their needs. QueerNW will act as an anchor for different groups to operate under. Rather it be Houses, Families, sports leagues/teams or other groups, they will be able to have support and structure using QueerNW’s 501(c)3 status and organizational support.

Additionally, QueerNW will be a virtual support organization that will help share information and be a place for those living in the Pacific NW to coordinate and find out where to get services or to get involved. Using all virtual mediums, QueerNW will create a vibrant online and in person community.

The programs will be both created by the community and the organization to serve for the greater good.  Such programs might be advisory boards that will help other companies or businesses.  One of these that will be created is the Queer Arts Council which will help represent the community to the Art Community so that real life LGBT+ voices are heard and we represent how we want to be seen rather than an organization thinking they know what we want to see.  And example would be coordinating with Tacoma Art Museum, History Museum, etc.

Beyond working on our own programs, QueerNW will partner with as many other community organizations that support the LGBT+ community and promote great utilization of those services.  QueerNW does not want to compete fully with anyone but would rather partner for the betterment of those we serve.

In general, QueerNW is wanting to see a network bringing the LGBT+ community in the Pacific NW together to be stronger, more inclusive and to serve for all those it represents with their own actual voices. Creating safe and encouraging spaces so every person and intersection can share their stories, find support, and express themselves.

Our Board is Unique just like us

What makes Queer NW different is we assign each board seat as an identity. Each seat represents an intersection that is uniquely qualified to give insight that only they can provide. While we understand that not all board seats may be filled, but it is important to have them ready and available at the table. When we say we want all voices heard, we mean it. Find your seat and join our board today!

Below is the board positions and the identity titles that hold those seats. If you see a seat that is vacant and you represent that intersection of identity, please volunteer to join the board.

More Voices, More Help

In addition to our unique board, Queer NW will utilize advisory councils for additional forms of input. These councils will be only advisory and have no voting rights regarding governance, but the feedback and insight they provide are imperative to how we make decisions.

The different advisory councils are businesses, youth, and charity/government. More councils can be created based on the changing needs.
