Queer NW Programs

As a newer organization, we are still building and growing our programs. It takes time and money to bring our dreams to life. Like many before us, it takes dedication, determination, and imagination to change the world around us. Starting, we are going to focus on our home city of Tacoma, WA. Once we have the capacity to grow, we will build out network bigger and better for all of those living in the Pacific Northwest.

How can we help make the LGBTQ+ community better?

It is our goal to build a better future for all LGBTQ+ members. At our core is to support and build networks of support for every one of our neighbors and give them the safe spaces they need to control their identities and support each other as a community. While our general programming is designed to be inclusive, we do provide for different intersections of identities to create their own events and activities that are led by and for them. Please be respectful of people’s spaces as we start building a world that is safe and secure for ourselves, yet strong and reliable for each other.

Any feedback and insight into how we can help you, please contact us to get involved!

Queer ARTS PROJECT

All Ages

Queer Arts Project is a series of workshops, events, and showcases the many different forms of art. These events are funded in part thanks to a grant from Tacoma Creates. From dance to painting and theater, you will find a new passion to enjoy.

Queer JOURNALISM

All Ages

Queer Northwest with the help and funding of Tacoma Creates built a journalism program for anyone to take. Our instructor from the University of Washington helped develop the course based on Community-Focused Journalism. It is meant to make sure our lives at the LGBTQ+ community are recorded, shared, and never erased from history again.

Dining with Pride!

All Ages

Dining with Pride is our on-going fundraiser that brings the community together over a meal. With the help of participating restaurants, Dining with Pride raises money by a portion of each check being donated to Queer NW. In part, we give some of the funds to local charities that are advancing access and equity for the LGBTQ+ community.

In Face: History of Drag

All Ages

In 2020, Queer NW was awarded the Tacoma Art Grant to create a live show that would reproduce historical representation of the art of female impersonation. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a live show was forced to be adapted into a website built for the history of female impersonation and in November of 2020, the website was launched. It will continue to serve and grow more as information is given to fill in more gaps.
